Because of their attractive combination of quality and affordibility, Lawton actions have proved very popular with custom rifle builders. Check the equipment lists for major 1000-yard BR matches and you'll note a high percentage of Lawton actions. The 7000 action has become very popular with varmint hunters and tactical shooters alike. Lawton provides an action for nearly any type of rifle you would like to build. If we don't have what you need in our standard lineup, we'll make it!
Lawton actions have performed well in competition, setting many records. Barney Lawton himself set a World record with a Lawton action and Lawton barrel in his 6x47 Light Gun. Barney's 1000yd 10-shot group measured 5.185". All shots were in the 10 ring for a perfect 100 score. That record was recently broken by a shooter that was using a Lawton barrel. It is a regular occurance to see Lawton actions and barrels shooting some of the top scores at competitions. That is a fine testament to the kind of precision machining that makes Lawton #1!
All of our actions are machined to exacting specifications to ensure all mating surfaces are strong and reliable. Each action is tirelessly inspected and hand-fitted by our staff of expert machinists and gunsmiths. Our actions have a long barrel tennon area and a thicker lug to increase rigidity. The ejection port is much smaller than factory to decrease the harmonics of the action.
Our bolt design is one of the things that make our actions exceptional. The bolt handle is threaded 5/16th-24 TPI and is welded on, rather than soldered. It features a Sako-style extractor in the lug to increase durability and ensure reliable extraction. The bolt is hand-lapped and mated to each receiver to ensure a perfect fit and smooth bolt manipulation.
The firing pin is stronger, and more precise than a standard firing pin. We then use a spring that was designed specifically for the pin to ensure the coils are spread evenly and do not drag on the inside of the bolt.
Special Note:
All bolts are chrome-moly, and come un-coated. Some bolts and un-coated actions will have slight surface rust accumulate during shipping. We are taking steps to prevent this rusting problem in the future, but for now, you must make sure that when you get the action, you take care of the bolt. If you have any questions, please contact us.
* All actions, barreled actions, and complete rifles must be sent to an FFL dealer for legal transfer to you.
